Every now and then, new trends emerge in travel. They not only tell you what people want, but also what people are missing, in their daily lives. Some take cycling trips with friends, while others opt for organised cycling tours. So why do cycling trips have such great appeal?

We believe that the bicycling as a lifestyle choice represents a significant departure from a more established automobile centred lifestyle. The bicycle tours are always fun filled adventure and to be exposed to culture at the same time. They are both challenging and interesting and also infuse the spirit of adventure in people.
We have been doing Mumbai – Goa Cycling trip for the last decade and as a natural extension we have planned this “Blue Sea to Blue Hills, Nilgiris” cycling trip. We would start from Cansaulim Beach, in South Goa; very close to Cansaulim and Verna stations on Konkan Railway. We will go past sun-washed beaches of South Goa, unassuming villages, and thickly green hillsides of blue hills of Western Ghats.

“When you are cycling, the slow pace allows you to notice much more, like the change in vegetation from coconut trees on beaches of Goa to the forests of Western Ghats of Nilgiris.” – One Cycling Enthusiast.

We will start from South Goa and then cycle along the coast till we reach Cancona, the last village in Goa before Karnataka. We will cross many famous beaches on the way like Majorda, Colva, Varca and Betul. After entering Karnataka our first night halt will be in Karwar, a major base of Indian Navy. After Karwar we will cycle along the coast on National Highway No. 66, but soon the highway turns inland and we have to cycle slightly away from the coast till we reach the temple town of Murudeshwar, which is again on the coast. From Murudeshwar, we cycle to town of Udupi. From Udupi we will cycle for about 70 Kms to reach the Karnataka and Kerala border. We will cross town of Mangalore on the way. Once in Kerala we will cycle for around 30 Kms to reach Kasaragod. From Kasaragod we will cycle on State Highway number 57 for a long time as it’s more coastal as well as shorter. Just before the town of Kannur, we will join with National Highway No 66 again. We will leave the company of Highway No. 66 from here and would ride on State Highway No. 38, which will take us towards Sultan Bathery, our next destination. The last day of the ride, from Sultan Bathery to Ooty will be the most scenic but will also be the most challenging as we will be climbing the famous ghats of Ooty, which boast of some 33-hairpin bends. After cycling a distance of almost 750 Kms we would be in the blue hills of Western Ghats, the Nilgiris after a ride of 9 days.
